I am so grateful that my beautiful friend asked me to photograph her grandma. Because Margaret truly is amazing. At 87 she is still living in her own home, the home she’s been in since 1960. Such an independent, warm soul. And her career as a seamstress is so evident in how beautifully she was dressed, lipstick on and nails to match. She warmed my heart with her life story, from her wonderful marriage to Tom for 47 years, and then her loving companion, Hal until only years ago. She has endured so much – a stressful move to Brisbane when she was 18, the loss of a husband and then her partner, and the loss of her only son just a few short years ago. But her strength and love shows through when she talks about her daughter, her only grandchild and her family that have extended over the years. How precious they all are to her. With such a quick wit and and infectious smile….I can see why she so incredibly special to my dear friend.
Never mind that she baked cupcakes for me take home to my kids.
Or that she invited me to Bingo (I know it’s probably weird, but I can’t wait to get old so I can go to bingo too!!!).

Her wedding photo to Tom + her beloved Hal
The home she’s been in for 55 years. Still doing her own cooking, washing and managing stairs (at the back!)
She has a wedding to attend soon…and has picked her material and will design/sew her own outfit.
Margaret’s smile and laugh were truly infectious 🙂
